This is a view of Missouri Love Apples Tomatoes. 

Today was a beautiful day to work in the garden, we weeded and planted several different vegetables. Here is a list of what was planted:

• Contender Green Beans
• Golden Wax Beans
• Royalty Purple Pod Beans
• Orange Cushaw Winter Squash
• Golden Bantam 12-Row Corn
• Raspberry Lyanna Tomato
• White Bush Scallop Squash

The White Bush Scallop is "a very ancient native American heirloom squash, grown by the Northern Indians for hundreds of years, this type was depicted by Europeans back to 1591, and one of the best tasting and yielding varieties still around today! Great fried and baked." information taken from Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company, Mansfield, Mo.  


Tomato Raspberry Lyanna is said to be "simply stunning, raspberry-pink are of medium size. Firm flesh is very sweet and richly flavored. This variety from Russia  is perfect looking, one of the prettiest tomatoes we have grown."
 We planted these seeds directly into the ground instead of starting them in small containers to be re-planted. We want to see how well they do by using this technique. We pray that this garden will be to God's glory and we will harvest a lot of produce from it.
A little side note about today: We had 3 visitors today and they seemed real intent on staying around the garden the whole time we were there. These critters were Pit Bulls with one male dog the leader of the pack! I can't say we were ever at ease with them hanging around, even though they obviously were friendly enough. I find it is best to error on the side of  caution when it comes to animals running lose.

This picture was taken today of 5 raised beds that have been made for the purpose of raising fresh garden vegetables for the residence of the Laurie Care Center and the Laurie Knolls. All the building material, soil, compost and the plantings of seeds, and plants were donated, as well as the time it took  for planting the garden. It is so encouraging to see people helping one another with one common goal in mind. I hope this garden does exceptionally well this year! What a great project Nikki!!

Oleta, planted several different types of seeds on the 10th of April, here is a list of what she planted:

• Basil Lettuce Leaf
• Squash Straightneck (summer squash)
• Early Golden Summer Crookneck (summer squash)
• Cucumber Japanese Long
• Melon Metki White Serpent (Armenian cucumber)

Camila helped in the garden several weeks ago and she planted radish seeds and they are up and thriving. Good job Camila!

Eric, (my husband) ran the weedeater all around the garden. It was not an easy job, and we are thankful for his hard work!



Oleta, my friend, is such a hard worker and is loving gardening for Share the Harvest. We have big plans!

Guy Winters, president of the garden coalition came out to hook up the water supply to the garden. This garden will supply Share the Harvest food pantry with fresh produce. It is technically called the Habitat Garden as the space for the garden was donated for use by Habitat for Humanity. The building behind Guy is the Habitat for Humanity retail store. Again, we are thankful for all who are willing to give of their time, talents and land to make this project work. 

Mariel came to work in the Share the Harvest garden Thursday 29th, 2012. We are delighted to have her join us in making this project a success. Mariel is holding her youngest daughter Alejandra and Camila was busy watering, planting radish seeds and re-locating worms while digging out grass with Oleta. What a fine day it was in the garden!

Here is Oleta working with "Sis" our garden companion. We began tilling and building raised beds on March 18th, 2012.
